BOARDING SCHOOL

A 4 week program for those who want to get their dog/s trained quickly, and with as little owner downtime as possible.

Our program is a 4 week training course in which your dog will spend the first two weeks with one of our obedience trainers, going home with him or her each night.  During that time, your dog will go through an intensive program in basic obedience.  By the end of the two weeks, your dog will have worked on: sit, down, stay, stand in place, heel (walk on lead without pulling), come when called, and how to greet people without jumping up.  At the end of this two weeks, you will come for an indoctrination lesson and your dog will return home with you.  At this time you will also be given a training collar and leash and a handbook.  You will already have been given a textbook entitled “What All Good Dogs Should Know”, by Volhard and Bartlett.

Beginning with week 3 it is your turn.  During this next two weeks you will learn how to deal with your dog and how to make sure he remembers his lessons and performs them willingly and on your command.  You will bring your dog for private lessons with the instructor who trained the dog (we recommend 6 to 8 lessons during this two week period) where we will teach you to handle your dog, and to build a relationship of affection, trust and establish you as the leader in this relationship.  We will make sure that you and your dog are working comfortably as a team.

The program does not end there;  if you ever have a behavior or training problem or question with your dog as long as you own him or her, just pick up a phone and call us.  We will do everything we can to help you solve your problem.

Dog Obedience Training

Course Structure - Classes meet weekly for one (1) hour.  Duration of course is 6 weeks. Size of class is 6 to 8 dogs, with one or two instructors, permitting plenty of personal attention to you and your dog.

Instructors methods stress motivation and de-emphasize correction or punishment.  The training staff, headed by Training Manager John Bickel, includes members of both the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI). All our trainers are graduates of Jack and Wendy Volhard's Top Dog Training Camp, a week long course for training instructors.

Training for beginner & advanced (novice) dogs coordinated by a NADOI certified instructor.  Class lessons, private lessons and boarding school all use the "Motivational Method".

Purpose - To make your dog a better companion through the teaching of behavior oriented exercises.

Goals - By completion your dog should do the following on-leash exercises on command:  Sit; Lie Down; Stay, Stand; Heel (walk at your side without pulling); Come when called; Remain in control when approached and touched by a stranger.

DOG OBEDIENCE TRAINING - Tuition - $165.00 includes 6 classes, training collar and leash, textbook and workbook.  Other equipment is not permitted.
